Jenkin (Carlton), 21; Reid (Lyall Bay), •The- following^ two-lifers were left in at the close of yesterday's play:—Jenkin (Carlton), Naylor (Lyall Bay), Efford (Edgeware),. and Gilbert (Karori). The one-lifers were:—Thorndon Green: Fielding (Hataitai), Ives (Canterbury), Reid (Lyall Bay). Hataitai Green: Edwards (Temuka), Walker (Auckland), Gordon (St. John's). Wellington Green: Benefield (St. John's), Dee (Nelson), Rendle (Eastbourne),- and Smith (Kelburn).

At Hataitai in the second round, Edwavds (Temuka), a one-lifer, eliminated Tucker (Victoria), by 22-12 in the second round. Edwards was always in the lead after the seventh head. Tucker was not ( too well, backed up. . '_li. Naylor (Lyall Bay) met Maxwell Walker (both two-lifers) in the second round. The Lyall Bay team work was more consistent than that of their opponents. Macky (Auckland) 'gave good support. There were two ties, 4-all and 7-all, on the seventh head. Naylor then forged ahead unchecked. He got three 3's and a 4,-and ended up with 21 to 13, H. C. Wilson (Linwood) and T. Gray (Kelburn) (one-lifers) were 5-all and then 11-aII. Wilson afterwards kept away from Gray, and won by 22-16. . Gordon (St. John's) and Traye's (Mount Eden), both two-lifers, had a very interesting game, Gordon winning by 18-17. There were three ties, including the score

(17-17) on the twenty-first head, which had to be replayed. At Hataitai, Edwards (Temuka) and H. C. Wilson (Limvood), with one life each, had a good game, Edwards winning by 19-16. The score was 2-all, 4-all, 10-all, 11-all, and 12-all (on the sixteenth head). Edwards then added three and a 1. Wilson killed the last head to get 5, but only got 3 on the replay. Naylor (Lyall Bay) and Gordon (St. John's), both two-lifers, had a peculiar game. Naylor was 11-1 with only seven heads gone. Then Gordon piled up 3, 4, 3, making it 11-all on the eleventh head, i He then added four l's and a 2, while Naylor got three l's, two 2's, and a 3, the latter winning by 21-17. ~The play generally was very good. At Wellington there was a noteworthy incident in the game Dee (Nelson) against Arnott (Palmerston North) in the third round. Arnott was down 11-20 on the eighteenth head. In the next end, in order to score, he killed the head three successive times. On each occasion, A. Dee's toucher was lying right on the jack. Arnott eventually got a 2, but lost by 13-22. Benefield (St. John's) and Lancaster (Carlton) provided an interesting game in the second round. They were 8-all on the eighth head, and 11-all on the tenth head. Benefield got 3 on the next head, and then Lancaster got a couple in two heads, and scoring 3, 1, 1, on the fifteenth, sixteenth, | and seventeenth heads, led 18 to 15. Benefield scored 1 and 2, making the score 18-----all on the nineteenth head. On a replay in the twentieth head, Benefield got 1 and 3 on the last head, winning 22 to 18. Rendle (Eastbourne) started off well against Gilbert (Karori) in the third round. The score was 4 all on the sixth head. Then Gilbert got 2. On the eighth head with only one more bowl to play, Gilbert moved the jack a foot, and lay the shot and a measure. Rendle, with a fine draw, lay 1 shot, Gilbert did not alter the position. Rendle's last bowl with a wick added 4 to his score, making him 8 to 6. On the close ninth head Gilbert drove and put kitty in the ditch, and, Rendle's draw finding the ditch, Gilbert made the score 8 all. Gilbert thence drew ahead to stand 15 to 11 on the fifteenth head, and went on to win by a wide margin. This Karori team had its only sound drubbing on its own green. It played well as a team yesterday afternoon, while Eendle's team, though Meo held his end up, collapsed, and Rendle was unequal to the burden.

One of the best games of the third round was that of Lowry (Petone) and Smith (Kelburn), in which there were five dead heads. Smith scored two on the first head and four on the second. Lowry retaliated with a 6 on the third head, making the game 6 all, and took the lead on the eighth head with a 4, which made him 12-11. This he followed with another 6 on the ninth head, making him 18-11. Alternate scoring followed until Smith got a A on the thirteenth head and a 2 on the next, making the game 19 all, and put three more on in the next two heads, standing 22-10. ' Then Lowry scored a 5 by trailing kitty, making him 24-22. Smith scored 3 on the^next head, making him 25-24. Lowry's rink killed the nineteenth head1 twice, when Smith lay favourably. On the final replay of the head Smith got 2, making him 27-14. On the twentieth head the play was' most interesting. Me- . Coll drew a beautiful shot for Smith, and his other bowl was pushed in by -McKenkie to count 2, Silbery drove twice for Lowry, but was wrecked. Smith scored a third counter. Lowry drove twice and missed, though his second drive, slightly diverted by a front block,' ran through the head narrowly missing kitty. Lowry got 4 on the last head, and won 30-28. J. Lowry (Petone), who until this season was skip for Kelburn, and who went down yesterday to J. R. Smith (Kelburn) by 30 to 12 after intensive play,; had the peculiar (experience of being, beaten by his old rink, with Peter McColl filling the gap as lead.
