Sir Charles and Lady Statham returned to Wellington yesterday morning after a visit to Duucdin. Mrs. Macarthy Reid, "Totara," Maoribank, has returned homo after a brief visit to Picton. . Mrs. W. H. Bremnor, Halswell street, who has lived in Wellington for the past .two years, will leave to-morrow morning at daybreak by the Rangitata on her return to England. Mr. and Mrs. F. Maeßryde and Miss Sheila Macßrydo will arrive in Wellington noxt Monday from Sydney. Miss Macßrydo will bo the guest of Mrs. H. P. F. Buddo (Hastings) and Misses O'Neill (Waneanui). Miss Hellier, of Honiton, England, has been'appointed Chief Clerk in their central office by Devon Public Assistance Committee (states "Dawn")- She is a daughter of the late Town Clerk of Honiton, and .has held a number of offices in that town, including Clerk to the Guardians' Committee, Deputy Town Clerk, and Bating Officer. She has also- had great experience in Poor Law and other, county work, and for four months-was temporarily eneaeed in the Public Assistance Office.
Dame- Madge Kendal had recently conferred on her the honour of the freedom of the Borough of . Grimsby. The scroll bearing the special resolution of the Town Council was contained in a^silver casket adorned with the arms _of Grimsby and surmounted by an allegorical figure based' on Greek mythology, representing the arts of Tragedy and Comedy-
