DISARMAMENT

SUPPORT FOR CONFERENCE

The following letter has been received by the Dominion Council of the New Zealand League of Nations Union from Mr. Arthur Henderson;

I write to thank you for the appeal which you have sent me on the subject of disarmament. I am convinced that the time has now come when it is essential that political questions such as the German Claim for Equality of Eight, and tho French Claim for the Organisation of Peace, must bo dealt with and settled. With this in view, it is expected that the General Commission of the conference will shortly meet; whilst, a.s you know, the bureau has for some time been engaged on some aspects of the. problem. As you are aware, proposals have recently been laid before the bureau both by the French and British delegations, while there are also important reports from special committees which aro shortly coming up for consideration. I think, therefore, there is ' every hopo that, within a measurable time, a decisive effort may be made to assure the success of the conference. Vital decisions will soon •have to bo taken between policies that lead to lasting peace and policies that may mean ultimate war. At this grave moment the support of every citizen throughout the worM is needed to help us to achieve the purpose for which this conference was brought together. Yours sincerely, (Signed) ABTHUR HENDEESON. Geneva, 30th November, 1932.
