CANADA'S RAILWAYS
NATIONAL AND PACIFIC
AMALGAMATION URGED
, TOEONTO, 16th January. The consolidation of the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Eailways into one system under one management, and a reduction in railway mileage to the country's actual needs were urged by Mr. E.- W. Beatty, president of the Canadian Pacific, in addressing the Canadian Club on Monday. The control and management, ho said, should be accompanied by a proper measure of responsibility on some agreed basis, either by the- Government'to the Canadian Pacifie-and its shareholders or by the Canadian, Pacific to the Government in relief of the railway burden.
