JAPANESE COMPETITION

ANXIETY IN ENGLAND

LONDON, 16th January.

During a visit to Manchester, Mr. Stanley Bruce, Australian Minister in London, found cotton manufacturers extremely despondent at the extent of Japanese competition and Japan's ability heavily to undersell competitors despite tariffs. They were also apprehensive of losing their grip in the, Australian cotton trade to Japan.

Visiting Bradford, Mr. Brirec found that the woollen manufacturers were, also concerned fearing that Japan's recent heavy purchases' of Australian wool might lead when military requirements had been fulfilled to the exploitation of_ the Commqnwealth market at the expense of British and Australian interests. . , '
