AUTHORITIES SCEPTICAL
DISASTER IN CHANNEL?

PARIS, 17th January. The French authorities exhaustively inquired about the ' missing airman, Hinkler, at the request of tho- British Air Ministry. T.hey report that there is no evidence of any unknown airman crossing Franco. Aerial .control is so close that it is impossible for an aeroplane to cross France unseen. It was unlikely that Hinkler had gono so far. out of his course as the Alps, espe^ cially in -winter time. They fear that ho met disaster in the Channel. ; iv
