AS A PROTEST
BOARD MEMBER RESIGNS
CONDITION OF UNEMPLOYED
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WESTPOET, 17th January. ; " Mrs. JToreman, daughter of Mr.- H. 33. Holland, Leader of . the Opposition tendered her resignation as a member of the Buller Hospital Board this .evening. . . ■ . "I am taking this course," said Mr* Foreman, "as a protest against the refusal of the Government to'make adequate, provision for the families of-un-employed, and also, as a protest against the Government's refusal to permit hos-pital-boards to afford relief in cases of distress arising out of unemployment. When the hospital subsidies were cnt down the Government declared that relief hitherto-given by hospital boards in cases of distress caused by unemployment would be provided by the Unemployment Board, but that undertaking has been consistently and flagrantly dishonoured as well as a promise that no one would be lef£ in want. , ... . "I take this extreme course with tha deepest regret, and only because of the conviction that in this way I may possibly do more ultimately, to secure s measure of relief for the more distressful cases.among the families of unemployed than I could hope* to-do by re>' maining on the board.". ,■ .._ ,
