(Received 17th January, 11 a.m.)" j LONDON, 16th January. ] A triple-engined twelve-ton aeroplane, piloted by Captain Mermoz with a crew; of six, including the constructor, Rene Couzinet, left St. Louis, Senegal, at 4.48 a.m. for Natal, Brazil, to demonstrate the practicability of a regularSouth Atlantic service. A wireless mestsage at 8.10 stated that all were well and they hoped to maintain a speed o£ 150 miles an hour. • A message from Natal, Brazil, state* that Jean Mermoz, flying from Paris, via South Africa, in the aeroplane "Rainbow," arrived there on Monday at 1.40 p.m., American E.S.T. Mermoz averaged- more than 149 miles an hour, setting a record of fourteen hours ten minutes for the 1962----mile westward croasing of the Soutli Atlantic. He and his party are the first to breakfast in Africa and dine in Brazil.
