AMATEUR ATHLETICS

,P, ne. o£. the most interesting amateur athletic meetings to be held at Wellington this season will be the interprovincial contest between Wellington and Canterbury at the Basin Reserve on Saturday. Canterbury will be represented by a strong team of 16 athletes, including several holders of provincial and national titles, who will be opposed to the pick of Wellington s performers in track and field events. One of the main attraction will be the race in the half-mile event between T. G. Broadway (Canterbury) and W. Ugg, who were the winner and runnerup respectively at the New Zealand championships last year. It will also be interesting to see how the southern sprinters perform against Wellington's best. A full programme of scratch events has been drawn up, and there will also be handicap events. A grand parade of the athletes will open the meeting.
