SEARCH FOR HINKLER

COMBING THE ALPS

CAPTAIN HOPE'S QUEST

LONDON, 14th January.

Captain "W. L. Hope will leave immediately to search for SquadronLeader Hinkler in. a Hawk Moth. He will take a mechanic itnd wireless equipment. He intends to make a wide search of the Matterhorn Valley and comb the Alps daily. His headquarters will be Basle.

The "Morning Post," in an editorial, asks why no concerted systematic measures have bee,n taken to trace and, if possible, relieye Mr. Hinkler. Eecalling that Sir Charles. Kingsford Smith and Mr. Ulm were rescueu in the Australian bush after twelve days and that Commander Franco was picked up after drifting in the Atlantic for ten days, it says: "It may not be too late to succour Mr. Hinkler; If he met with disaster it will be a tragic loss to British flying prowess. If. no prompt and' effective effort is made to find him it will be a blot on the national escutcheon."
