TROTS AT THE PARK GOLD CUP TO KOI LOB, TRACK RECORD FIGURES . 'The Hew Zealand Trotting Gold Cup at the Wellington Trotting Club's. Gold Gup Meeting at Hutt Park on Saturday providcdan enthusiastic attendance o£ the public Vfith a sterling contest, topped off with a thrilling climax. , Eoi lOr, the winner, was driven a masterly race by ~E. Holmes, coming home with a great, final run down ,the outside of the leaders to take the honours off Lindbergh by half a length. His time of 4min -,21sec was a race and track record for two wiles. After the race the Hon^ C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture, preisented "the gold trophy included in the stake-to F. Holmes on behalf of the winner's owner, Mr. P. Brown, of Waimate.
- The winner was in seventh place when the field had settled down, and raced in that position until a mile and a half was completed, where he rushed up to the leaders. Rounding the home bend Holmes steadied Roi lOr, but once in' line for the judge he closed on Lindbergh and in a hot finish he beat his rival by half a length. : Roi lOr gained distinction when he beat Harold Logan in the Free-for-All at Addington in November, and established a fresh record for a mile, and a quarter. In view of his sjieeess on'this occasion considerable interest will be taken •in the niatch over ten furlongs between Harold Logan and Roi lOr at the Timaru Trotting Club's Meeting next Saturday.
The first mile of the Gold Cup contest ■was accomplished in- 2mm 18sec and theWile and a half in 3min 23 4-ssee. That was\Auto Machine's time, he being in the lead when that portion of the distance was covered. Roi lOr compassed his last two furlongs in 30 l-ssec.
Auto Machine made the running for nearly a mile and three-quarters, with Lindbergh at his throat lash, and Gold Country, Peter Pirate, Free Advice, Glenrossie, Roi lOr, and Harold Logan racing in that order and in close formation. Auto Machine -was beaten before reaching the [straight, where Lindbergh, Glenrossie, Roi I'Or, and Gold Country lined out for the final struggle. ' At the distance Lindbergh and Roil.Or drew away from their opponents and finished in the manner stated. Gold Country-was a good two lengths away third, arid was followed home by Harold Logan, Glenrossie, and Free Advice. . Harold Logan -was the favourite with '£517 invested on his chance, but the hot pace set beat him. Lindbergh -was second favourite with £421, and Roi lOr was third choice carrying £335^ " ' '
