Local crick/item -were favoured with ideal weather on Saturday afternoon for the continuation o£ their competitions, and all sound there were some really fine performances, bowlers as well as batsmen returning good figures. In the senior graile Institute and Kilbirnie fared none tc>o well with the bat, but otherwise there ■was some splendid scoring, with entertaining displays for those who followed the progress or play at the Basin Reserve. Midland, on No. 1 wicket at the Basin, .looked to be in for a poor score against Wellington's Symes-Bluhdell bowling combination, but after five ivickets had been lost for 37 runs a great ■ recovery was made. In this Dustiu led the way, and he was followed by Jack and others. Dustin and Jack each passed the 80 mark, and turned the tide completely for Midland, whose total was a very tidy one. On the other wicket at the Basin Reserve University, given first use o£ the wicket, made runs in plenty against Wellington College Old Boys: Wilson top-scored with a: well-compiled century, and Pacey was -another to assist materially in the ruuniaking process. Parsloe, who will be absent next Saturday, did not come off with the ball, but. Bartletf returned good figures. Kilbirnie were in difficulties against Hutt ,oa the Kilbu-nie ..Beserve,' and but for Hepburn and Monkhouse there would have been a debacle. Judd .was the bowler to do the damage, and .his exceptionally fine performance in tak"ing' eight wickets for 42 runs included the "hat trick," Hutt did not do any better as far: as they went with the bat, and the match was left in a most interesting "position. . Crook bowled very well for Kilbirnie. Institute failed badly with the bat against Petone at the Petone Recreation Ground, Mallard giving another fine account of himself'with the ball. In reply, Petone gathered runs plentifully, with Dempster and M. Nicholls using the willow to good purpose. The afternoon's play resulted as follows:— Midland, 331, v. Wellington, 15 for two wickets. University, 290, v. Wellington College Old Bojs, 22 for one -nicket. Kilbirnie, 167, v. Hult, 07 for six Tuckets. Institute, 74, v. Petone, 101 for two ■wickets. '
