FROZEN MEAT MARKET.
Messrs. Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated 13th January;— Frozen meat quotations are as follows*— North Island Down lambs, 281b to 361b 7%d per lb, 361b to 421b VAd; beet North Island crossbred lambs, 281b to 361b? 7%d,-361b to 421b 7%d; North Island second quality lambs, average 30/31, 6%d; best North Island, wether sheep, under 481b, 4%d, 481b to 561b 4%d, 561b to 641 bsd, 641b to 721 bsd; North Island ewes, under 481b 3%d, 681b to 561b 3%d, 561b to 641b 3 1-Bd, 641b to 721b 2 7-8 d; New Zealand prime ox beef, 1601b to' 2201b 3'/4d. Compared with. last, week's quotations, Down lamb, 281b to 361b, Vid per lb lower; best crossbred lamb, 281b to 361b, l-8d per lb lower; best wethers, 561b to 721b, l-8d per lb higher; others unchanged. "The market is steady, but quiet." The Bank of New Zealand (produce department) has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business this week:—"The market is short of supplies of wether mutton and prices are nominal. The market for ewes is quiet and unchanged. There is a moderate demand for lamb and prices are a shade, lower. There is a;better inquiry for beef. Trade generally is slow."
