Miss Spooner; who became a pilot ia I 1927, has made a number of historic , flights, and had several remarkable es-', capes from death. In March, 1930,: shs ' received the woman's trophy of the. International League of Aviators. Her principal flights have been in connecl • tion with attempts on South African' teeords, in which she has not been very; ' successful. In February, 1930, she; flew from Nairobi to London, and in • November of the same year she attempted van England-South Africa flight, but was forced down in the Tyrrhenean Sea. On this occasion she was accompanied by Flying Officer E. Edwards. The machine came down two miles from the shore, and Miss Spooaee swam from the aeroplane to the shore ! for help. Since then she has taken part' in a number of racing events, including I the King's Air Cup. ]
