CHEAPER THAN CARS

AEROPLANES NEXT YEAR

INDUCEMENT TO FLY

(Received 24th November, 9 a.m.)

LONDON, 23rd November.

Aeroplanes cheaper than motor-cars will be available in 1933, says the "Daily Express" aviation expert. It is estimated that 150,000 young men and women would be flying, if it were as cheap as motoring. The engine of a light aircraft costs £300, and a motor-cycle engine- could be fitted for £25. Aircraft have already been tested which could be marketed by mass production probably at £.100. Admittedly they are unsuitable for long distances, but they are quite suitable for short business or pleasure journeys. Five- firms are developing aircraft at prices ranging from £150 to £310, compared with the cheapest marketed now at £550.
