ARBITRATION ACT

AMENDING PROVISIONS

HOW THEY HAVE WORKED

LIST OF DISPUTES

Some, interesting facts regarding the -results obtained under the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill of. last session are contained in a report which, has been prepared for the Minister of Labour (the Hon.. A- Hamilton); and which was released for publication, to-day. ~

.According to the report, the number of agreements filed 'to date is twentysix,,and in addition .twelve disputes were referred to the Court for the settlement'bf ..minor matters, making a total of .37 cases in which the parties reached a settlement. Six of-the cases, settled' affect'practically-the whole of the Dominion.in the particular trades. In forty-six cases no settlement was arrived at, but the number of awards cancelled is forty, the difference being accounted for'by' the fact that separate disputes filed in each district in certain .cases .where Dominion awards ■were in existence, and!in two cases (engineers and motor liieejta'nics) second : created ; after the. awards •were cancelled failed to result in a settlement. On. the other handj in one case two awards were cancelled' by one dispute. • ■'- ■ ' >.•: ~ -:■ ■

The' total cost of the disputes up to 81st October;. last is approximately .£2235. .This includes only the fees, allowances,'and expenses paid to assessors. .. ' ;
