ATHLETIC TOURS
A TEAM FROM JAPAN }]
An offer by the Victorian Amateu^ Athletic Association for an extension! to New Zealand of a ■ proposed tour this season by American athletes was received at the annual meeting of tha N.Z.A.A.A. Council this week. The terms, however, were not viewed witk favour. Word now comes from Melbourne that the tour is not likely to eventuate. J. Bausch, Olympic decath. lon winner, appeared to* be the only athlete available, Saling, Wykoff, Teppin, Eastman, Gordon, and Genung all being unable to make the tour. The secretary of the American "A.A.A. had asked if BalphHill. (distance runner) would be acceptable, but the Victorian, executive had taken up tha-attitude that the tour should be postponed until a full team was available. "•' ■
More information is to be obtained from America before a definite decision is made, and in the meantime th« Victorian A.A.A. is considering the advisability of inviting a Japanese team for the present season, the team to include Numbu (hop, step, and-jumper), Nisiuda (pole vaulterj;' Noshika (sprinter), and Kitomoto (distance runner).
