During the past 24 hours the meteorological situation has been dominated by an intense depression of the westerly type. Strong north to north-west winds have prevailed, reaching gale force In many places, and rain has been fairly general in districts with a westerly aspect and the-far South, some heavy falls having occurred. For instance, Arthur's Pass reports having had as much as 5.10 inches, Puysegur Tolnt 2.03 inches, and various other places, in Westlan<T over one inch. The eastern districts, on the other hand, have continued to have warm and dry conditions. TO-DAYS WEATHER.
