METHODIST VIEWS

RESOLUTIONS BY SYNOD

(By Telegraph.—Press Association),

ASHBURTOiSF, This Day.

The South Canierl ury Methodist Synod passed the following resolution:—"Owing to the repeated failures of the Legislature to deal satisfactorily with the question of religious teaching in primary schools, we are of opinion that the question should be referred to the people by means of a referendum, and that a petition should be presented to the Government urging this to be done." i

The synod demands that the censorship of talking films be tightened up in direction of eliminating the worst type of poster as well as of film.

It was also resolved that the annual conference be urged to press for an increase in the excise duties and in the cost of large public-house licences.
