The'Semaphore-Baptist Church, Adelaide, which some time- ago extended a call to its pastorate to the JJev. Bernard Wilson, formerly of Auckland and now of Christchureh, has after nearly a year renewed the call, and Mr. Wilson, with the consent of the Baptist Union, has accepted it.- Mr. AVilson, who is only 28, is an. ex-student of the Auckland Grammar School and of the Baptist College, Auckland. During his pastorate of less than three- years at Opawa, Christchureh, the church has more than doubled its membership. Mr. Wilson's father; the Eev^'A. S. Wilson, who retired this year/received his theological training in Adelaide. The Semaphore Church- was formed in 1878, and is one of: the" largest Baptist churches in South Australia.
Thi Rev. Dfl H. Bau'sfon has been appointed by--the Auckland University College Council to be one. of its representatives in the Xew Zealand University Senate, in place of Professor A. P. W. Thomas. Sir "George Fowld3 was re.ippointed as the other representative. Sir George and Mr. T. 11. Wells were reappointed by the council as its representatives on* the council of ilassey. • The resignation of Mr. "W. .F. Sturman from the position of secretary to the Hutt Park Committee was received with regret by the committee last night, and a motion of appreciation of liia services was passed. The chairman. (Mr. .A. Walker) and Messrs. J. "W. Longman, \B: W. Toomatit,- E. T. E. Hogg, and "El. S. Patrick all expressed their regret.at Mr. Stuiman's departure and wished him" successes Towa Clerk of Invercargill. Mr. Sturman suitablyreplied. The. committee. appointed Mr.' H. Eobinson, at present a lecturer in the University College of the South-west of England, Exeter, has been appointed lecturer in physical chemistry at Auckland University" College, and: will take up his duties ia February. He'is 28 years of age, and had a distinguished record at the University' of where- he obtained the master of science degree in 1926. In th& same year he was awarded a. Commonwealth Fellowship, and from 1927 to 1929 undertook research work and post-graduate study at • the University of Pennsylvania and Tale University. He became demonstrator in chemistry at University College, Exeter, in 1929, and was later appointed research assistant' and lecturer to evening class students. . In 1930 ho took the degree of Ph.D., Birmingham. : Dr. Bobinson "is aii-associate of the Institute of Chemistry, and has contributed a number of papers to the transactions of learned societies ia Britain'and the United States. . Advice from Melbourne states that Mr. H. "Winston Bhodes, M.A., who'has been tutor in English at Ormond and Newman Colleges for several years, and has been appointed to the senior lec-tureship-in English at Canterbury University College, Christchurch, in the University of New Zealand, will take up his new duties early'nest year.
