ANZAC MEMORIAL

CEREMONY AT 'PORT SAID

The Broadcasting Board has made arrangements for the relaying, if the conditions are favourable, to-night, of the ceremony of unveiling the Anzae memorial at Port Said. All the YA stations will be used for the purpose. The ceremony will take place at 12.40 p.m. Egyptian time, corresponding Ho 10.30 p.m. New Zealand time. The broadcast is of a unique character, for it is the first time an Imperial broadcast has been made of an-event in a land so distant from England. The short-wave broadcast to be heard here will originate in England, and be picked up in Australia and re-transmitted to New Zealand.

Tests of the full circuit were made last night, and were quite successful, listeners being able to hear speech from Port Said ana also Sydney's replies. The Broadcasting Board the following summary of the order of the ceremony.

At 10.30 p.m. His Excellency Sir Percy Loraine, High Commissioner of Egypt; arrives. On his arrival the band will play- the National Anthem, followed by the band playing "Oh God, Out Help in Ages Past"; the congregation will sing. A prayer will then be said by the Lord Bishop of Egypt and Sudan; this prayer will be in three sections, the first for those who made the great sacrifice, the second for the bereaved, and the third section will be a consecration. The High Commissioner will invite the Eight Hon. W. M. Hughes to unveil the memorial, after which His Excellency will pay a tribute to tlie New Zealand and Australian Forces. A short address will be given by Mr; Hughes. The unveiling of the memorial then takes place, then the flags of New Zealand and Australia will be broken simultaneously; followed by the breaking of the flags of Great Britain and Egypt.. One minute's silence follows." The Bishop :will then dedicate the memorial and 'pronounce the Benediction. The Last Post will be sounded, followed by the Beveillc. There will then be a flypast by a squadron of the Eoyal Air Force: The Egyptian National" Anthem will be played, then the British National Anthem, followed by tne placing of wreaths an the memorial. .
