ANOTHER DEPRESSION

LESS SETTLED WEATHER

The anti-cyclone responsible, for therecent fine weather is now moving away eastward, and the front of an intense westerly depression has reached ■ the" South Island. Hence the weather forecast issued at noon to-day promises northerly to north-westerly winds, which,' while being moderate to strong generally, will reach gale force at times south of New Plymouth and Napier. In far southern districts a change to southerlies may be expected to set in after about twenty-four hours. Unsettled and showery weather is fore-' casted for districts with'a westerly aspect, although in eastern districts the weather should still be fair to cloudy. Temperatures may 'be expected to! be. warm. .... ' •. •

Fine weather was fairly general yesterday owing to the influence of the anti-cyclone which is now moving away. Northerly winds, however, began to increase in force owing to the approach of the depression, this being especially the case in and south of Cook Strait. Conditions have become cloudy'and unsettled in western districts from Taranaki southward, rain < having ■ fallen already in many places in that area. Temperatures have been .warm all over the Dominion.

Auckland's weather yesterday was fair to cloudy, with a- light northerly wind. In Wellington the weather was fine, and sunny until the late afternoon,, when conditions became cloudy an 3; misty.. A. fresh northerly, wind blew all day. The weather iii Christchurch was dull with an E.N.E. breeze. A trace of rain fell there Suiing the evening. Dunedin had more cloud than sunshine yesterday, although the weather was fine as a whole, the wind being a moderate north-easterly. Some rain fell during the night.
