Fire Station Site. ' • ' Referring to-day to the decision of the Fire 3oard at its last meeting to approach the Minister of Internal Affairs for permission to negotiate for the purchase of the Clyde quay school site as a. site for a new central fire station, the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, said that the impression that the council -was asking a yearly rental of £2200 for the use of the site .in the angle of Wakefield street and Jervois quay was incorrect.; That rental had been proposed, but subsequently the council had offered the site'to the Fire Board upon' new terms,-the rental to. befixed by agreement between, the Government and 'City .Valuers. The term of the lease suggested was 56 years' Park Committee and Borough Council. The report of Mr. G. J. J. Feil re commending that the Hutt Park Committee pay to the Petone .Borough Council for clerical services £50 a year instead of £13 13s as at present, was received by the Park Committee last night. The committee considered that no increase in the payment should be made, in view of its small Tevenue and the fact that the .park administration was virtually a borough activity. A letter embodying these opinions ivi'll be sent to the council. High School Epidemic. An epidemic of acute gastric troublo has BWept through the Feilding Agricultural High School during the past day or two, with the result that the whole of the boarders, including staff, are down with the malady, states <'The Post's 1' special, correspondent at" Palmerston North. . It.;is reported that health officers and doctors have made investigations in. order to discover the cause of the sickness, but without success. The food has been closely examined. All the patients are progressing as well as can be expected.'.
