False Scent, now six years old, apparently benefited with the'spell that his new owner Mr. E. Meredith, of Waipawa, accorded him on acquiringhim subsequent to the Masterton-Meeting last May, for he came home, ■unexpectedly on iis stable in the Little- Flaxmere Handicap at Hastings recently. The stable was in oW l.ahonia, who was backed^ down to fay: puntism but failed badly; The two horses race in different interests and were not bracketed. . \ .'-.■. . --.'.''

As a, two and three-year-old' he did not do much racing, but the next , two seasons were hectic ones for .him, as. he■'. \vie asked to step out on fifty-six •occasjoos in little over twelve months, racing several times twice on tlie same day. Previously he did not like hard tracks, but last Saturday such :conditions did not /worry him. In spite of his seven wins to date he is still a hack, with £55 still to go to reach the £500 winnings- mark.
