Something new in the way of a school benefit entertainment was held on Thursday and Friday evenings, when the Ngaio School Committee and the Homeland School Association combined to stage their first annual competitions festival. The proceedings were formally- opened by Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.," who praised .the work of the handicraft section, and encouraged the children to continue and become proficient in the subjects, they had, chosen.
The competitions comprised drawing and painting, map-drawing, woodwork, writing, cooking, needlework, essays, singing, recitation, and dancing.' " " A demonstration, at which the :prizes will be presented, will be held on Wednesday evening
