PENNIES FOR HAPPINESS

CAMPAIGN IN PROGRESS.

Ihe campaign in aid of the Mayor's Distress Fund has now been in • progress for several days, and it is stated that, very* satisfactory progress is being made in all departments. The "penny drive" . started two weeks ago is bringing in thousands of Pennies for the fund. The queen contest, which has been planned as one of the big features- of "Happiness Week," is making wonderful progress. Dozens of- committees and many sub-committees have been formed to further the interests of the queen candidates, which have been drawn from five different sections of the community—Public Service, Sport, Radio, Traffic, and the Movie World. Wellington has become divided into five camps, each with friendly rivalry and competition, each aiming to place its candidate at the top of the poll. From now on the supporters of each queen candidate will iprosecute an intensive campaign for the sale of vote tickets, tickets for raffles and prizes, and for all the varied entertainments which have been planned for "Happiness Week." On Saturday next, under the patronage of Their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Bledisloe, and the Mayor and Mayoress, Mr. and Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, the main "Happiness Week" activities will be commenced, with a dance extravaganza staged by" Miss Kathleen O'Brien. • ' .
