LABOUR'S ATTITUDE

NOT YET CONSIDERED

A RUMOUR DENIED

A denial that the Labour Party had yet given consideration to the exchange question was made by tho Leader of the Opposition (Mr. H. E. Holland) in a 1 statement to "The Post" to-day.

"The Labour Party's caucus on Thursday was not called to discuss the exchange question," said Mr. Holland. "It was convened to discuss another proposal put forward by an individual member of the party. At that meeting, it is true, the exchange and other questions were very briefly discussed, but it was decided to await the PrimeMinister's statement of Cabinet's decision before further dealing with the matter. It will be remembered that on Thursday afternoon I made an unsuccessful attempt to obtain a pronouncement of Government policy on the subject from the Prime Minister. However, the statements which have appeared in regard to the Labour Party's meeting are mainly erroneous, and were not obtained from the party. "The Prime Minister's statement of this morning to the effect that the banks must decide the country's policy on the exchange question emphasises the truth of the Labour Party's contention thatthis country is being run by the banks and financial institutions, and not by the Government."
