SHAKES HANDS WITH DUCHESS

SUBMITS TO ARREST

LONDON, 9th November,

For a wager a well-dressed American visitor slipped through a police cordon at Southampton to-day and shook hands with the Duchess of York.

The Duke and Duchess were being bidden farewell by the Mayor and other officials after a visit to the city when the incident occurred.

■• The young man stepped back .after he had shaken the Duchess's hand • and shouted, "I have won." He submitted quietly, to arrest, and was marched to the police station," where he explained that he had done it for a wager. Later the young man was released without his identity being- disclosed, but the "News-Chronicle" says Ms name is J. Isaac.
