WEIGHBRIDGE OVERHAULS
Different views as to the number olj skilled mechanics required for the overhaul of a weighbridge* were given, bjj witnesses called as experts at the hear* ling in the^upreme Court of the claim; I for damages' by Herbert Hickling, i weighing machine foreman, against W. T. Avery (N.Z.), Ltd., for alleged wrongful dismissal. Hiekling's claim was for £5 as wages due to the date lof his dismissal on 20th July, and for £1000 general damages. ' " Mr. A. B. . The evidence was that Hickling, who" joined the defendant company under a five years' contract.of employment at a salary of £7 a week, was dismissed by Mr. Bossiter, general manager o£ W. T. Avery and Co., Ltd., because he considered it unreasonable to be asked to proceed with, the overhaul of the Westport Coal Company's weighbridge without a skilled assistant.
