SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY.
The weekly concert held at the Sailors' Friend Society Institute on Thursday was somewhat out of the ordinary. In addition to vocal and elocutionary items, there were violin, banjo, and Saxophone'solos, and some familiar airs were played upon a weird looking but tuneful instrument known as a-phonofiddle. Community singing at the opening and close o£ the evening went with a" fine swim;. The performers were Miss Q. Hibbe'rd. Messrs." Bennett, Leber, ■J. Walker. .A. Fitzgerald, Bevan, and T. Williams. 'Mr. P. Archer, who was at the piano, was the host for the-evening, and supper was served. '- ■
