VIOLENT BURGLAR
SHOPKEEPER AND SON ASSAULTED
A vicious assault.was made upon an Island' Bay shopkeeper and his son by a burglar when he was caught-, attempting to break into the' shop on Thursday night. The shopkeeper, Mr. J. Thomson, whose business is at the corner of Dee street and The, Parade, and his son Alec; aged 19, were both struck with a jemmy and temporarily incapacitated.
Aroused by a. burglar alarm on the door of the shop, Mr. Thomson and his son went to investigate. The intruder, however, did not wait,- and jumping a fence he ran up Dee street. ,'. Mr. Thomson, junior, chased him, but just as he was about to catch the man the latter turned and hit him with a.jemmy. The father went to the son's assKtance and he, too, was -struck and injured;' The intruder then escaped. Detectives Baylis and Hall are inquiring into the matter.
