LONDON, 16th November. Victor Smith, the nineteen-year-old son of a South African boot manufacturer,, who left Cape Town at midnight on. lStir^November in an attempt to beat the_ air record to Croydon, was ahead of his schedule when he reached Duala at 3.40 p.m. on 14th November, and departed for Gao. He has since been, missing. The district between Niamey and Duala is a dense belt of forest 800 miles wide, and infested with, insects. * »
