FRESHENING WINDS

To-day's, weather forecast issued at noon indicates that freshening northerly winds may be expected south of New Plymouth and Napier, winds elsewhere being moderate and variable. The weather generally is still likely to be fair, mild, and hazy, but with an increase in the amount of cloud. Scattered snowers *will probably develop in Westland and in far southern districts.

New Zealand is still covered by the anticyclone' responsible for the recent spell of fine weather, and during the last 34 hours conditions generally have been mild and pleasant, with variable and mostly light winds. From "Cook Strait southward northerlies have predominated, and these this morning were freshening in the Cook Strait area.

Auckland had another fine and sunny day yesterday with a. light south-west-erly wind. It was calm and dull in Wellington yesterday morning, but the afternoon was sunny with a light northerly wind. Christchurch had a fine and sunny day, the wind there being a fresh E.N.E. In Dunedin yesterday tho weather was cloudy, during the morning, but the afternoon, was-bright..
