The late .Mr. Nelson, who was, 89 years of age, was, born in England. He left »ehool at.the age of fifteen and four years later emigrated to New\Zealaria in company with his brother; Mr. 2T. Nelson^ He arrived at Akaroa in 1862* and served in the Maori Var. For some time he.livea at Kereru, and in 1864 returned to England.. In 1866 he began farming at Waipukurau, and. in 1870 at Kereru. Until 1872 he was interested m flax-milling at Mangateretere. Between 1872 ana-1880 he-was again in> England. : He built the Tomoana boil-: mg-down works and in 1883 started the iomoana.l'reezing;Works. 'He retired in. 1920.- He was a member and chairman of the Clive Biver Board and also served on various other local bodies When the .Free Association of Employers was formed after the 1890 strike he was; president for sonic years- '
