BEAUTY SECRETS

HOW TO DO THE HAIR

Kathleen Court lelivered the thud of her interesting series of lectuie demonstrations at the'DXC. yesteiday afternoon, and once again tho specially arianged hall on the first floor was not nearly largo enough to accommodate the crowd of women who were anxious to hear beauty seciets revealed by this well-known beauty and cosmetic specialist. The stage, which is so tastefully arranged, in the famous colours of red and black, with the lismg sun effect in the background, certainly does much t"o enhance the appeal of this charming personality, who has undoubtedly won the hearts of all those who. have had the good fortune to enjoy her lectures. Miss jCourt.devoted, over one hour to her subject, and at the conclusion of her addipss gaye personal advice by means of specially-marked charts to all those who wished to improve their appeaiance by utilising the correct piepaiations suited to their .individual colourings. ' t * Miss Court dealt'in an 'interesting way with the eare r of the hair and the real causes of dandruff. - Many people, she said, imagined that this1 was an ac> quired disease, but it, might be caused by a number of thitfgs. In most 'cases, however, it ( was' 'caused , through the uso of the wrong soaps and shampoos. Under a microscopel it could be seen that, a hair^ had tiny tendrils'on the ends of which were pores. If these became clogged up the hair could not breathe and dandruff resulted. Tho complaint was also due to the fact that hats were sometimes "worn 1;oo often and for too 'long a period. Lack of sufficient hair brushing was also anothor cause. In. these busy days very few women had the time to "go in for the very leisurely brushing _of hair that was the habit many years ago, and Miss Court stated that she considered this was not absolutely necessary so long as a very thorough brushing was given to the hair at least once a .week.

A few hints on the way to apply creams to the face were given. Miss Court emphasised, that an "upward motion, to counteract tho force of gravity, the, decaying tissues,- and other things that drew the skin down, was imperative. The face should always be patted, upward, lightly, with the tips of the fingers. Particular attention should bo paid to the powdering of the face, and she said a dark-toned powder should always be used. . Clever women used lipstick, not so much to accentuate the shape of the mouth as tf> throw up and bring out tho colour of the oyes. It also'gave the eyes a sparkle. The eyebrow and eyelash pencil had a similar effect. It was by the judicious use of the pencil and lipstick that a face, which natm ally lacked expression, would be given vitality and, interest.

Miss Court demonstrated on a, model on the platform, and as each cosmetic was applied instructions anditints were given. The model later showed, herself at close s range for the'audience's inspection. ~' /'"■"■.:.:: . , ■ ."'-•
