DISPLAYS FOR BOYS.
The Boy Scouts, Boys' Institute, and Y.ai.C.A. are, during November, combining in several boys' demonstrations with a view to reminding the community of its obligation to its own boyhood. ' At the last meeting, of the combined committee of these associated boys' organisations, General Sir Alfred Robin submitted plans for the boys' field day, -which, is to be held on the Basin Reserve on Saturday, 12th. November. His Excellency the GovernorGeneral has consented to be present, and the programme will' include displays and demonstrations by the boys of the three organisations. There will be ceremonial marching, dances, gymnastics, boxing, games, etc. A boys' band will provide the music. On 16th, 17th, and 18tt November a boys' hobbies competition and exhibition will be held in the Town Hall, the . bject being to stimulate creative activity and encourage the useful occupation of the leisure hours of boys. The whole of the ground floor of the Town Hall-will be occupied by exhibits under the various sections. These exhibits will include meccano, general mechanical, aeroplane, radio, woodwork, photographic, art, and general education. The competition is open to fell boys 18 years and under. En--23,, i! rms may be ' obtained from the V.M.C.A., Boy Scouts' . office, or I Boys Institute. All entry forms must be handed in at the Y.KI.C.A. by Ist Novemi ber, in addition to a small entry fee of 3d per entry or a maximum fee of Is, which includes any number of entrils. In the ' meccano class models must be built of meccano, or similar parts only. There is no restriction to the number of parts used. Points will be awarded for origin-1 ahty. In the mechanical class all models must have working parts. The aeroplane section will include flying and exhibition models as well as gliders. The radio section will'include home-made crystal sets, and there will be a competition for the best assembled valve set. Woodwork section will include fretwork, general woodwork, models, power models, etc. In the art section the competition will include pencil drawing, water colours, pastel original cartoon, mechanical drawing architectural drawing, commerical art (best poster or show card). Each night of the exhibition there will be a concert and display. Full information, regarding entries, etc., may be obtained from the boys work secretary, V.M.C.A., 150 Willis street. <.
