AN ADVERSE MOVE
LABOUR AMENDMENT
After the unemployment question had been discussed in the House of Representatives all day yesterday, Mr. W E. Parry (Labour, Auckland Central) moved an amendment that the Government convene a conference of representatives of owners of rented houses and tenements, relief workera,_ana, the (Government to make mutually satisfactory arrangements by which, unemployed workers would have a reasonable guar- [ antee of shelter for themselves ana their families, and the owners would be guaranteed a definite return in the form of rent.
The amendment was defeated by 43 votes to 24. •
