DISARMAMENT

GERMAN OPINION

GENEVA AND LAUSANNE UNACCEPTABLE

United Press Association—By Electric Telt» ' craph—Copyright. (Received loth October, 2 p.m.) . BERLIN, 15th October. It is understood that Germany will maintain her refusal to go to Geneva, as the French proposal of the meeting at Geneva is based on the standpoint that the Disarmament Conference must not be deprived of dealing with Germany's demand for equality, which, is what Germany desires to avoid; -consequently Germany's acceptance of Geneva would be- tantamount to capitulation. It is maintained: that there can, be no participation in a Disarmament Conference before the equality claim, is admitted. Germany is prepared to meet in any other locality, hoping that thereby they will induce France .to change the venue. " " "

Regarding the London Teport' that Britain is proposing a ten years' political status quo, German political circles are of the opinion that such, a truce would be unacceptable, and-"any conference based thereon would bo useless.

Cabinet has ■= endorsed Herr yon ■Papeu's refusal to accept Geneva. It is now stated that Lausanne is equally unsuitable, this lessening a chance of any conference materialising.
