TRAGEDY AT HARBIN

Mrs. -Woodroff, wife of the accountant of the British-American Tobacco Company stationed- at Harbin, was taking her children 'to school in a motor-car when she encountered three armed bandits in military uniform, who held up the car which was driven by a young Russian. The bandits attempted to kidnap the children, but Mrs". Woodroff fought tigerishly, aidacl by the chauffeur and another Russian. The mother was shot dead, and the two Russians r wounded.. The police were attracted -by the shooting and the bandits took .to their heels. One was shot dead, and another wounded and captured. ; -The third escaped. The children escaped to an adjacent Eussian home.
The outrage, in br,oad daylight, has distressed the foreign community.
