RACING AT WASHDYKE

TO-MORROWS PROSPECTS

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The South" Canterbury Jockey Club's Spring Meeting will be held at Washdyke to-morrow. Good fields have been attracted, and, as many of the competitors have shown form lately, the racing should be of more than usual interest.

The principal event is the Timaru Cup Handicap, for which a field of nine, including five New Zealand Cup candidates, has accepted. Cricket Bat will be at a disadvantage against seasoned opponent'^ as he has not had a race since the autumn, in addition to which his ability to run out a mile and a quarter has not been proved.- Against these disabilities there is the fact that he is a horse of.better class than the others. Minerval has won at his last three starts, and though- he has gone up in the weights, he is very well. Ramo has shown no form since.the autumn but he is improving rapidly. Shatter followed up two thirds by winning at yWingatui last week, and though it was not an impressive effort, he should be benefited by the racing. Merry Peel beat him in the Eurow '• Cup, and may do so again, unless he has come on. Water Power will find the journey too far. Locksley .must have a fair chance. ' :

.In the Flying Handicap there are a dozen acceptors. Ranelagh is in such good form that his chance cannot be ignored. He beat Blue Metal easily at-the Kurow Meeting,,and is certain,to run well again, though Blue Metal ■' will be hard to dispose of after his two good races last week. Belvoir won at Geraldine:* but gained an ( early advantage, which helped materially. He would; find it; hard "to beat Night Recital, but the latter is reported a likely Cup-starter. Mount Boa is in form, but his inability to begin fast is a handicap at six furlongs. Royal Sceptre impressed in his Gerardine-;wiri;\Hula: Belle is speedy, but. on jWinga'tui form Blue Metal should beat her. ■'.'■-,.."■'■ .'; ■•> '■-. ■ ',:■•- •■•
