The; '•" occ&aitfi' wa's the annual ball of the" Maraniii Sur| and Life^saving Club, which yesterday attained its. majority, and celebrated the occasion in a night of fun and festivity. Novelty dances^ several excellent .cabaret items, and a delectable sit-down supper added greatly to the enjoyment of the evening. Among the guests were numerous representatives of other life-saving and swimming clubs, who entered heartily into the "birthday" atmosphere of the occasion, so that the ball was really an outstanding one in the club's history. . . , ;:
Balloons and gaily-coloured' streamers were used effectively for decorations in the ballroom. Cabaret items included a "Spanish" and.■?' Romance" duo by Misses Dorothy Daniels and Thelma Bartholomew; hula ballet Imd 'band' numbers by Rank- T6?er and his-hula girls and boys; tap" danclng^By*a"pupii"frpm. th o" Kathleen- Nichblls 'dance seho'6'l; '-eihibjtion quickstep by Miss.Beatrice ■Mehafley and Mr. Russell,, and an ex.hibition tango by-Miss"' M. Wilson arid iMr. W. Priestly. Much of the success of the evening was duo to the arrangements of the committee and joint secretaries, Messrs. "E." Hoy and R. Rose. The hostess for the evening was Mrs. Ashenden, who -wore z. handsome1 frock *6(' black and flame, satin. Mr. T. Hewitt (club secretary) was M.C. The numerous visitors included'Mesdames H. C.
