UPPER HUTT COURT

Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., dealt with cases in the Magistrate's Court at Upper Hutt on Wednesday. . For cycling at night without lights', Dudley A. Gill and Allan Greenwood were fined 5s each, and Ivan Alladice was convicted and ordered to pay costs. Lewis Denby and Gordon Neil were each fined 10s for driving without a licence. For the same offence Bertram McCarthy was convicted and discharged. Two charges of not having a heavy traffic licence were brought againdt Peter Bobertson. The inspector for the Main Highways Board (Mr. J. Ainsworth) said that Robertson had failed to renew the licences for two lorries owned by him. The outstanding fees had since been paid. Robertson pleaded guilty, and was convicted and ordered to pay 10s costs on each charge. Stanley Charles Schirnack, Hector P. Merrie, and Noreen Stewart were each charged' with driving,a motor-cycle at a speed and in a manner dangerous to the public. According to the police, Schuv nack, with a lady pillion passenger, had travelled at 45 to 50 miles an hour. He was fined £2. Merrie, whom the police »lleged rode at 40 miles an hour, was fined 30s, as was also Noreen Stewart, ivhom the police said did the same speed with a mate pillion passenger who was teaching her to ride.
