FOR MASTERTON RACES

PALMEESTON N., This Day. Beneficial rain Jias fallen during the past few days and the tracks at Awapuni are now in great order, although they are by no means fast.
Minstrel Lad, who claims an engagement in the Lansdowne Handicap at Masterton to-morrow, was one of the pre-breakflast workers yesterday morning. He was restricted to pace work, but he looks in great order arid should show np in his race. Hunter's Moon (Anderson) ran three furlongs on the .course proper—the flags being' well oul>—in 39sec. Unlucky at his one appearance at Otaki, bo should bring some further stake money to his Ceylon owner iv the hack scurry at Masterton. Mrs. Ai McDonald has two representatives in the Nursery Handicap at Masterton—Boudoir and Wait and See. B: J. Mackie or J. M. Pine. will, pilot Boudoir, and the stable apprentice,- B. Chisholm, will ride Wait and See. The pair have both displayed plenty; of promise in their track' essays, and 7 should make very creditable showings. Blacksmith is" largely restricted to pace work these days, and he is thriving _„on it.. Although, he has had little racing this '■ season, he should tun out the mile in comfort, to-morrow.
The Maiden Stakes candidate, Headland (C. Eobinson), had Prince Mercia (C. Thompson) 'as a partner over five furlongs during the second session. They ran the first two furlongs in 26sec and the : full distance in lmin Bsee. As both had' substantial poundages up and were not. asked for their best, it was. quite a satisfactory trial. ■ Biding engagements -announced for the meeting include:—B. Chisholm, Wait and See; H. F. Gray, Forest Stag and King Peg; E. C. Miles, Headland and Blacksmith; S. Anderson, Pegged Exchange, Maypay, Solitaire 11, Arrow Lad, Atholspear, Hunter's Moon,' and Cape Paraki. - .
. Three of E. E. Hatch's boys will be in attendance at the Avondale fixture. K.i'VoitTe will be associated, with Princess Doreen, .Eoyal Artist, Tea Trader, Deh-ain, Currajong, Puss Moth, and Imperial Prince. • Wi J.
