MYSTERIOUS FIRE

LONDON, 12th October.
Damage to the extent of SEICOJOOO! was done by a mysterious fire which destroyed the Fairey Aviation Companyjd experimental works at Hamble. The losses include ten of the world's fastest seaplanes, which were being tested before delivery to the fleet air^ arm. Only one was saved. The fire originated in the main office and spread so rapidly that the huge wooden building was a burning mass before the brigades could get to work* The flames rose 50 feet, and were see 4 twenty miles away. The Fairey Aviation Company is on© of the largest aircraft manufacturers in Great ! Britain. The 'machines destroyed are a naval type. The firm is famous for its all-metal propellers. The managing director of the firm, Mr. C. B. Fairey, is the president of the Soeietw of British Aircraft Constructors, and. * noted yachtsman.
