The riots have recommenced^ The police, charging prevented the crowd from raiding a baker's cart. Several were injured and taken to hospital. The tension has spread throughout the city. Three thousand ( police are patrolling the danger zones, suppressing^ attempts at looting the smaller shops and attacking vehicles. \ The banks , are strongly guarded. ' Snipers again fired at the police, but an armoured car dispersed the mast threatening attack. . There were skirmishes with, the policy all day long in some back streets. That rioters employed children to dig ng cobblestones, which they used as ammunition against the police, a-- number of whom were taken to hospital ' with, bad bruises and cuts front bottles. . Mr. Devlin states that twelve; thousr and people in Belfast have been: brought to starvation owing to inadequate outdoor Telief. "A. husband, and wife and two children get only 16s a week. Two Were charged with the attempted murder of a policeman. The situation then was quieter, except' in the 3Palls Boad area, where; policeman whoi showed themselves weraj sniped at. . • Armoured cars continued to patrol the streets all night long. During the riots four pawnshops wer«t pillaged, a lorry laden with beer was looted," three houses were burned to the ground, and thirty-one persons were injured and had to be treated at hospitals. The police used cars on whicK were mounted machine-guns, equipped with bird-cage tops to protect - thai crews from showers of stones.
