Y.W.C.A. GATHERING

SUCCESSFUL LUNCHEON

Tho charming brown Jacobean room at Kirkcaldie's was filled yesterday at a "Business "Women's Luncheon," held in connection with the Y.W.C.A. work in the city. Long tables were set with high vases of Iceland poppies,, these contrasting well with the redbrovra. tones of the surroundings. Mrs. J. G. Coates was the guest of honour, and was received by Miss Lowe (president of the Business 'Women's Association), Miss Jean Stevenson, and Miss Leila Bridgman, and presented with a dainty posy of flowers., Miss Lowe gave a cordial welcome to Mrs. Coates, and also to the members of th© Board of Directors who were present at- the gathering. , . ■ ■. .. Mrs. Coates,. who was warmly received,, gave a pleasant and interesting address, saying at, the' outset-that she was glad to find that there was such a society as it was a great advantage to the girls to have a central point of interest. She spoke then of the wonderful time the New Zealand delegates had had at the Ottawa Conference from beginning to end. It was one continued scene ofY kindliness and fine entertaining from; 'beginning to end, with lovely scenery,, and- '^.new places to visit, each and all quite thrilling in their novelty and pleasure. Mrs. Coates smiled as she told her hearers that tho wives of the delegates were only admitted to the opening ceremony (which was a most-im-pressive one), and had;no: further; connection with the Conference till the closing scene. The extremes of heat and cold were mentioned. The splendour of the Ottawa Parliamentary Buildings was mentioned, with a deep appreciation of the carved pictures of the progress of the Great War in the entresol. Many other interesting points were touched upon, till "time was up'? to the regret of all. Miss Nell Batham moved the hearty vote of thanks which was accorded the speaker.
