BRITISH AIR ACHIEVEMENT

{Brltiih Official Wireless.) BUGBY, 10th October. The Federation Aeronautique Internationale has confirmed the ■world alti-! tude record for aeroplanes established recently by. Captain C. F. Uwins, "a well-known British airman, in a Vickers Vespa biplane, with a Bristol Pegasus engine. .
Captain Uwins reached a height of about 8$ miles, beating the previous record held by the United States by- 800 feet.
Lord Londonderry, on behalf of the Air Council, in a congratulatory message to Captain Uwins on winning the aeroplane height record for Britain, said that the success was a tribute alike to Captain. Uwins's own skill and to the efficiency of the British aircraft and engine used.
