HUTT RIVER BOARD
The fortnightly meeting of the Hutt Stiver Board, was; held last evening. Mr. 11.I1. S. Hewer presided, and there were preisent Messrs. J. Mitchell,: C.Gostelow, H. "Ei. iLeighton, and G. A. Chapman. ' The engineer, Mr, ,H. Sladden; reported that he had interviewed.Mrl Nimmo, and tad examined the Black Creek where it tan through Mr. Nimmo's property. He lia'd'found some obstructions to the free fpw--o£ the water, and had informed Mr. Timmo; that these must; be removed. He pnderstood that this had been done. ■ It was- pointed out by the chairman that jio onewas entitled to interfere with' any jivsterway, even where it was on his owu tirbp.erty, without the permission of the Jioard. . . The chairman and Mr. H. E. Leighton, the officers of the board and the Jjbard's solicitor, were appointed to interview the Public Works Department, on Jhe .question of reclaiming land at, the Jiiver estuary. The Manor Park estate advised that it £vas] proposed to build a stone groyne, to prevent floods depositing debris on the golf! course, arid asked if the board would assist with the loan o£ an. experienced, £nah and also supply material ftt cost. The board 'agreed, under certain condition's, the final decision being left with the jchairman. Mr. G. A. Chapman was appointed with Ihe board's secretary (Mr. A. J. Gearing) to. negotiate with the Town Clerk in regard to ■ the. rents of board property rentpd by the. Borough Council. The- board refused an offer to collect Jfates on commission. ■ An application to remit the 10 per cent, jpenalty on a ratepayer's rates was refusfe<l.- -. ■' ■■ ■ -.
