A deputation representative of practically, all Maoris engaged in the shearing industry waited upon the of Labour, (the Hon. A. Hamilton) today, and.urged that the' Government should intervene in the shearers V dispute and endeavour to bring about a settlement. The members of the deputation pointed out that the Maori shearers were at a v great disadvantage when it came to individual bargaining over conditions and rates of pay, and. unless a settlement were arrived at confusion would continue. ; They suggested that the matter be referred to a tribunal. The Minister, gave the request a sympathetic hearing. He said that he would confer with the Prime' Minister,* a.nd,that he hoped to give the deputation an answer at an early date.
