A DEFINITE MOVE
CONFERENCE HELD

A definite move to establish trade between New Zealand and the, Far East was made to-day when a conference was held between the Prime Minister (the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes),-the Right Hon. J. G. Coates; tho Minister pf Industries and Commerco (the Hon. R. Masters), and representatives of the four export control boards —meat, dairy produce, fruit, and honey. . The Prime Minister said this afternoon that tho conference had been most satisfactory, and it was hoped that definite results would follow. He indicated that the control boards would meet in conference to consider the matter further. The chairman of the Meat Board (Mr. D. Jones) would be the convener. ." . Mr. Forbes said that while he realised that there were practical difficulties in the way, he and his colleagues were of opinion that every possibility of opening up fresh channels of trade should be examined. As far as increased trade with the East was concerned, direct shipping was one of the necessities,, although he made it clear that there was no likelihood of the State instituting such a service. "This is a start," said the Prime Minister, who added that the Government was very serious in its determination to see that fresh markets were developed wherever the opportunity offered. The\Minjster of Industries and Commerce had obtained a vast amount pf information regarding the possibilities of trade with Eastern countries, and this had been furnished tc the export control boards. Now that the preliminary 'conference had been held, it was for.the control boards to follow up the matter. .';..'
